I've currently sent a mail in to the organizers to determine how they handle convertibles.
Most places do a broomstick test, but all their page says is "Factory roll over protection installed". My Z4 has factory roll over protection, but with a helmet on, a broomstick might not exactly fit over the helmet and top of the windshield frame.
I don't want to pay the fee, and then show up and not be allowed to drive.

Depends on the organizers and venue but the majority are pretty anal about this.
Have you considered losing a few inches of height?

Yes, but the cost of fixing an oops isn't really worth it.
I'm going to try looking at the seat brackets and see if there is something that can be done without resorting to custom modification.

The broomstick rule applies to cars with fixed rollbars. The z4 has 'pop-up' rollover protection right? Like the e46? They pop up when a rollover is imminent?

This is an e46:

No, they are fixed.

Ah, I know I've seen Z4's at events I've run, but I'm sure it's a group to group call.
I'd personally be a little wary I've tracking it if I didn't pass the broomstick. Even if the event did allow it.
I always thought the Z4's had the same system, and that's why they were out there. It seems NASA Utah allows the Z4's at HDPE events.
